POKEN - NFC TECHNOLOGY USING NOKIA QT SDK
Stephane Doutriaux, founder and CEO, and Scott Tavelli, software engineering project manager, at Poken talk about the NFC enabled Poken application. Poken enables users to make use of NFC technology by transferring social business cards and reading NFC tags embedded in a variety of objects, from posters to menus. Scott discusses also how using Qt made it easy for a small team to create the mobile application in just a few weeks.
QT REACHES ANDROID
The cross-platform application and UI framework Qt has just got is importance in an all new level now that it’s been used successfully under Android OS. This means good news for Android users that will be able to use Qt based apps but also Symbian, Maemo and Meego that will probably see more developers embrace this new platform.
In fact, for developers, Qt can be the solution to develop apps that can reach a wider range of users across OS’s, including the 2 principal OS currently on the market: Android and Symbian. The tests made also demonstrate that Qt apps not only run under different phones and OS but also run on Tablets with different resolutions.

NOKIA TO SELL QT LICENSING DIVISION
Digia has signed an agreement with Nokia to acquire the Qt commercial licensing and services business. Through the proposed acquisition, around 3500 desktop and embedded customer companies from various industries are targeted to be transferred to Digia. The transaction is expected to be closed by the end of March 2011. Nokia will continue to invest in future development of Qt for the benefit of all users, both Commercial and LGPL.
