White Nexus S with AT&T 3G bands hands-on!

Sure enough, it's that coveted white Nexus S with AT&T-compatible 3G that we mentioned yesterday, and we just got our dirty little paws on it thanks to a friendly tipster. This particular handset was purchased from Negri Electronics, and it's both unlocked and running Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread), the version that just barely started rolling out to existing AWS Nexus S units in February. As you can see, it's pretty much identical to the current model, except of course for that white tuxedo and 850 / 1900MHz-friendly 3G radio. Video after the break...

Other features include a 4-inch Super AMOLED Contour Display, which is slightly curved, 5MP camera, Near Field Communication (NFC), Wi-Fi and more.

Google Nexus S 4G for Sprint hands-on (video)

We finally got our hands on the elusive Samsung Nexus S 4G for Sprint at CTIA here today and it's pretty much what you'd expect: a Nexus S with its GSM / HSPA radio swapped for a set of Sprint-compatible CDMA / EV-DO and WiMAX radios. While the Nexus S 4G lacks a SIM slot, it's actually 0.3mm thicker than the Nexus S -- that's the thickness of a business card, and is meaningless for all practical purposes. The phone also features a 4G signal indicator in the status bar, along with a 4G sub-menu in the wireless settings. Our demo unit was running Android 2.3.4 (!) -- a version we have not yet come across -- but we were told that neither the hardware nor the software are final at this point. So don't be surprised if the production model receives a few tweaks before launch. Perhaps a Sprint logo?  Video after the break...

Nexus S UK launch bumped back to December 22nd, price cut affirmed

Those cursed limited supplies of the Nexus S have forced the Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy's UK outlets to push back the phone's retail debut by a couple of days. The Gingerbread flagship will now be sailing in on the 22nd of December and even then it'll be available only in "key" stores. Online purchases are encouraged, with an "instant ship delivery" getting the phone out to your nearest Carphone Warehouse branch for collection. Pre-orderers should presumably be getting their handsets on Wednesday too, while the £430 unlocked price has also been confirmed. So it's still good news, you'll just have to be either lucky or good to get your hands on one in time for the Queen's speech.Press release after the break......

Nexus S sees UK SIM-free price chopped to £430, Best Buy's Christmas deliveries not so guaranteed

The UK price for the Nexus S just became a whole lot (nearly 22 percent) more attractive, thanks to the Carphone Warehouse slashing the SIM-free purchase option to a sweet £429.99 ($668). Contract-saddled pricing has also taken a tumble, as the Nexus S can now be had for free on two-year agreements costing £30 ($47) per month. Good news all around, then, but be aware that the handset is now listed as being on back order, having been "in stock" earlier in the week. Speaking of delays, we're also hearing Best Buy's guaranteed Christmas delivery -- something proudly signposted on the Nexus S online order page -- might very well miss Santa's delivery window. A couple of our readers have received emails from the retailer advising them that their Gingerbread packages will be shipped "within the next 1-2 weeks," but might not get there by December 24th. So happy holidays and best of luck!

ANDROID 2.3 GINGERBREAD REVIEW

Aaron takes a look at Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) on the Google Nexus S. Overall, it’s a minor upgrade from Android 2.2 (Froyo) and offers a new Android keyboard, NFC support, modified system colors, and improved performance throughout. It’s available on the Google Nexus S at launch, and will be coming to the Nexus One “in the next few weeks.” Other high-end Android devices will probably receive it in 2011, though no official schedule has been published.Video after the break........
