Samsung GT-i9023 hits FCC: a new version of the Nexus S with Android 2.4?

FCC filings have a curious tendency to launch us into far-reaching bouts of speculation, but hear us out -- we think we're onto something here. A Samsung phone with model number GT-i9023 just passed the FCC with AWS 3G -- T-Mobile's band. If the outline of the device above looks familiar, it should; it looks exactly like the Nexus S, which happens to have a suspiciously similar model number of GT-i9020.

Here's where it gets interesting, though: German site BestBoyZ just reported a video of a Nexus S in the wild a few days ago that claimed to be running the rumored Android 2.4 release, and the baseband version in the About screen included the text "i9023." This new model number also just very recently received both Wi-Fi Alliance and Bluetooth SIG certification, though there's nothing particularly interesting in those filings. Oh, and one other random tidbit: a number of European retailers are listing the i9023 already as a "Black Silver" Nexus S, so it's possible that this will simply be a new color scheme -- but would that really necessitate a new FCC filing and model number? It's also conceivable that Samsung is taking the occasion of 2.4's release as an opportunity to tweak the Nexus S a bit -- maybe add HSPA+ for T-Mobile, something to that effect -- but at this point, it's pure speculation on our part. CES isn't even over yet, but Samsung's already looking forward to its next big event: Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. That show gets started on February 14th, but Sammy plans to get things going early with an announcement of dual-core smartphones and new tablets on February 13th. Such is the word straight from the company's mobile biz president, JK Shin, who says Samsung is "in a position to supply 4G smartphones and tablets to all the carriers in the US." Naturally, this 4G strategy will include both LTE and WiMAX, while another major prong of the company's future roadmap is to curtail its featurephone offering in favor of low-cost smartphone devices. Interesting times certainly lie ahead.

Samsung reaches goal: 10 million Galaxy S phones sold worldwide

Can't say we're surprised -- after all, last time we checked in the tally was hovering around 9.3 million -- but now Samsung has officially met its goal of 10 million Galaxy S phones sold around the globe. That's less than seven months since the device first hit the market, which by Sammy's fuzzy math averages to about one unit for every two seconds it's been on sale. According to Samsung Tomorrow, North America contributed the most with 4 million in sales, followed by Europe at 2.5 million. Let there be cake, and once that's over, let there be progress on those Froyo updates.

Yes, CES 2011 will be graced by the presence of Samsung's new 4-inch Galaxy Player, but our pockets, it would seem, might have to wait for it quite a bit longer. The Wall Street Journal today reports that, while Samsung intends to roll out the new Android PMP in its home market of Korea shortly after CES next week, the rest of the world is unlikely to be able to buy it until "the April to June period." Aside from its lack of phone functionality and a Super AMOLED panel, the new Galaxy Player is an almost identical replica of the company's wildly successful Galaxy S smartphone, which apparently has been no accident. The WSJ also lets us in on the knowledge that Samsung's phone division has taken over responsibility for building and selling its portable media player range, hence why we're now seeing such major overlaps between the two categories -- something that might very well continue into the future.

Samsung S8500 Wave Pictures - FIRST OFFICIAL BADA PHONE

Samsung S8500 Wave Pictures – The Samsung Wave S8500 is the first official bada phone. It sports sleek design with 3.3-inch Super AMOLED display that delivers even greater image quality with reduced energy consumption. The Wave is also equipped with a 1GHz Samsung processor that should allow for smooth 3D gaming and HD video playback. Its 5MP camera is capable of capturing HD video clips.

Samsung Lindy M5650 that is the elder brother of the Corby S3650, a really popular handset with cheerful design aimed at young people. The handset will be equipped with the same 2.8-inch touch-sensitive screen, but feature 3-megapixel camera (instead of 2-megapixel) and support for Wi-Fi and high-speed 3G connectivity (HSDPA 7.2Mbps). The overall design of the Samsung Lindy M5650 is almost identical to the Corby S3650 – the difference being the handset comes in less cheerful color solution and there are audio player controls on its front side. Moreover, the M5650 is equipped with FM radio, microSD slot (takes expansion cards of up to 8GB), Bluetooth and applications for social networking.

Phone Arena presents its video review of the Samsung Diva folder. Specifically designed for the ladies, the body of this phone is quite interestingly shaped, while the plastic it is made of is very reflective and glossy. Otherwise, it is fairly simple and has a 3.2MP camera.
