IM CHAT FOR NOKIA UPDATED FOR S60V5 DEVICES

Nokia has released Chat 2.5, an update of the IM application for the S60 5.0 devices, bringing some nice new features.

Here are the major changes in this update:

- Homescreen widget (available only in some phones)
- Quick and easy access to conversations
- The ability to change your availability status from the homescreen
- Preview new messages from the contacts list
- New communities added like MyspaceIM
- Enhanced avatar support

SOUNDTRCKR FOR SYMBIAN GOT UPDATED

Soundtrckr has been updated today and it features now Facebook integration so you will be able to post on your wall what you are listening to and invite your Facebook friends to join you on Soundtrckr.
The update is for S60V5 and Symbian^3 phones and brings also many bug fixes.

THE FUTURE OF QT,SYMBIAN AND MEEGO

Nokia CTO Rich Green talks about the futures of Qt, MeeGo and Symbian. With 150 million more Symbian devices planned for the next year, there’s still lots of work to be done in providing a great user experience for current Symbian users and for new owners. Plus ongoing suport for developers.

RIP: Symbian

This slide was just presented by Stephen Elop and Nokia CFO, Timo Ihamuotila, at Nokia's Capital Markets Day. Although there's no date listed, it's clear that Symbian -- a "franchise" OS that Nokia will "harvest" -- will be wholly consumed by Windows Phone on Nokia devices just as soon as Nokia and Microsoft can complete the transition. It won't be immediate, but it seems like 2012 will be the year that Nokia pulls the cord on life support. Regardless of the actual date, who in their right minds would invest their development time or consumer dollars in a smartphone OS that has no future within the company? The guys at Mobileways announced the first alpha version of their Gravity 1.5 app for Symbian devices with a broad number of new features, bug fixes and a completely renewed Facebook section.
